Weekly Market Summary

The number of significant transactions on the Cardano blockchain has surged by more than 50X this year, according to crypto intelligence firm IntoTheBlock.

The aggregated volume of transactions denominated in Cardano’s native ADA currency worth more than $100,000 is called Large Transaction Volume (LTV). LTV has grown from 1.35 billion ADA every day since January 1 to 69 billion ADA (worth $81.4 billion), changing hands on Cardano on March 28.

According to IntoTheBlock, this is a 51-fold growth in only three months and one of the highest volume levels since mid-2018. The company noted in a tweet on March 29 that the large volume shows “increasing institutional demand.”

Following months of speculation, premier NFT marketplace OpenSea has confirmed that it would add support for Solana blockchain-based NFTs.

OpenSea announced the news with a brief teaser video on its official Twitter account, mocking the deluge of comments about intentions to bring into the ecosystem. According to the video, Solana support is coming in April, which OpenSea tweeted is about “the best kept secret in Web3.” Although the date is to be determined, the month begins on Friday.

With a market worth of $1.5 billion over its several collections, Solana is the second-largest NFT ecosystem behind Ethereum.

Apple Pay integration and other iOS improvements are now available in MetaMask

On Tuesday, MetaMask, which ConsenSys owns, tweeted a series of updates for iPhone and Apple Pay customers. The key feature is the ability to purchase cryptocurrencies with a debit or credit card directly from the mobile app, avoiding the need to transfer Ethereum (ETH) from a centralized exchange like Coinbase.

To facilitate debit and credit card transactions, MetaMask employs two payment gateways: Wyre and Transak. Thanks to the Wyre API, users may now leverage their Visa and Mastercards saved in Apple Pay to buy ETH and deposit a daily maximum of $400 into their wallets.

In a previous Twitter thread, MetaMask users were cautioned “to be careful when interacting with contracts” and allowing a specific address to shift tokens. In addition, they stated that authorizing tokens might lead to wealth theft and that the only way to safeguard oneself is to remove token permits.

Chris Larsen, a co-founder of Ripple, was dubbed “Judas” after proposing a change to Bitcoin

On Tuesday, Chris Larsen, the wealthy co-founder of Ripple, roiled the crypto community by calling for Bitcoin to be more environmentally friendly. He’s partnering with Greenpeace and the Sierra Club to fund a $5 million campaign dubbed “Change the Code, not the Climate,” highlighting Bitcoin’s energy use.

The campaign’s declared purpose is to encourage the disparate group of individuals who maintain the Bitcoin network to switch from the energy-intensive mining method to a “proof-of-stake” approach, which uses far less electricity and other blockchains are already using POS.

While Larsen portrays his effort as a possible feel-good moment, many in the crypto world have been harsh in their criticism. Bitcoiners, in particular, were quick to condemn Larsen’s idea, including renowned crypto specialist Nic Carter, who replied with a “Gladiator” “thumbs-down” meme.

Meanwhile, Ryan Selkis, the colorful creator of crypto research firm Messari, criticized Larsen’s effort as phony, implying that his true goal was to promote Ripple’s own XRP currency. Larsen was dubbed a “Judas” by Selkis in a tweet for making billions in the crypto markets before putting Bitcoin under the bus.
