Coinigy Alternative

Coinigy Alternative

What is Coinigy?

Coinigy is a nice app for traders who want to monitor their portfolio across 43 exchanges, trade on 11 of them, use TradingView charting functionality, and put to action classic limit and stop limit orders. It offers margin trading on Poloniex and Bitfinex and lists Binance Futures on the beta version, however, we should face the music and admit that there are some issues with the Coinigy app to address.

The app neither has a trading functionality on iOS, nor offers trade automation. It doesn’t notify you the moment a long-term support level has been broken or an order executed. There are no advanced order types such as trailing stop or take-profit, no futures trading except only for some partial functionality on the beta version. Their UI can get better, not to mention responsiveness issues on the mobile version as well as broken buttons that kick you out of the app. And they are expensive.

Of course, no-one is perfect and there’s probably no perfect crypto trading and portfolio management app either. But there are feisty challengers that tackle the issues mentioned above.

Let’s compare Coinigy to one of them – Good Crypto. But, first, why not just go for Coinigy, indeed? It’s well-established, has decent features and was a breakthrough a few years ago.

Here’s why.

One of the most important features for any crypto trading and portfolio management app is, of course, its trading functionality. Although Coinigy allows you to track crypto funds distributed across different wallets and exchanges from a single-point access, which is a great idea in itself, the problem is that you can only trade in the web version or on Android, but what about those with iOS?

  • Trading functionality is available for 5,000 coins across 11 exchanges.
  • Order types available are limit and stop-limit orders.
  • Balances get locked while orders are in progress
  • Orders get placed in a matter of seconds to be later recorded under the orders history tab.
  • Margin trading is available on Poloniex and Bitfinex.
  • Futures trading is coming.

Good Crypto is a mobile-first crypto portfolio management app, focusing on both crypto portfolio tracking as well as on extensive trading functionality. Full Good Crypto features set is available on both iOS and Android. You can also use the web version of the app.

  • Trading functionality is available for 10,000 coins across 25 exchanges.
  • Order types available are Market, Limit, Stop Limit, Stop Market, Trailing Stop and Trailing Stop Limit + connected Take Profit and Stop Loss.
  • Balances don’t get locked while orders are in progress
  • Orders get placed in a matter of seconds to be later recorded under History and Open in the Exchanges tab.
  • Futures trading is available on all major derivatives exchanges.
  • Spot margin trading is coming soon.

Pricing

Interestingly, Coinigy charges for their services the most, $19.99 per month, which is almost two times more than the price of every other competitor. Plus, it’s pretty challenging to get your head around their prices because in the App Store and on their official website, they might be slightly different.

With the 30-day free trial version, you can:

  • Trade
  • Track open orders
  • Add unlimited number of orders
  • Check live order books
  • An unlimited number of exchanges live-streaming prices are available

On a PRO plan, you will have additional apps at your disposal, such as ArbMatrix or Google Sheets and a stop-limit order type.

In the niche, the price per month fluctuates around roughly the same number of $10, and Good Crypto’s prices are no exception. The lifetime plan will cost you $200 whilst for an annual plan, you will have to pay just $69

Importantly, the app’s free version covers 90% of Coinigy’s paid plans for casual traders.

With the free version that is not time-limited, you can:

  • Trade as much as you like on 25 major spot and derivatives exchanges
  • Autotrack blockchain wallets and exchanges
  • Import account history
  • check live order books
  • Trade without locking your balance when the order is sent with stop market and stop limit orders on all exchanges
  • Track open orders
  • Receive order execution alerts, alerts on portfolio
  • Set custom price alerts

On a PRO plan, you will be able to trade with trailing stop and trailing stop limit orders on all exchanges  and connect  stop-loss or a take-profit order, or both, to any order you send.

PRO plan comes with a 14-days free trial.

These days a lot of crypto trading and portfolio management apps build mobile-first products, but back in 2014-2015 when Coinigy was being developed, they focused on the web. However, now is the time to consider a growing percentage of mobile-first crypto traders as a separate market, meaning touch sensitivity issues and mobile usability are important to address.

Features available:

  • Different themes
  • Charts
  • Portfolio
  • Order history
  • Open orders
  • Order Book
  • Balances
  • History

One of the key features of the Good Crypto app is definitely its UI. Simple, intuitive, mobile-first interface that is nice and easy to use has always been one of the major objectives the developers were working towards. However, one of the challenges along the way was to combine exchanges, advanced orders, alerts, portfolio tracking, and data in one simple and yet state-of-the-art app.

Features available:

  • Different themes
  • Prices
  • Portfolio
  • Exchanges
  • Trades
  • Order book
  • Closed and open orders
  • Alerts

One of the most sought after features in crypto trading is, as you know, alerts.

And although Coinigy developers have thoughtfully integrated the feature into the app, alerts in the mobile version don’t work. iOS kicks you out of the app if you start pushing the button – however, the web version works better in this context.

On your laptop, you can enable price and volume alerts in the form of sms, email messages and browser notifications. The alerts get activated once your price hits different levels you can pre-set. Those levels include but not limited to an all-time high, a weekly low or an all-time low.

Alerts are an important feature in trading, especially the price-dependent ones that give you a significant advantage over other traders and let you make informed decisions on time.

With Good Crypto you can receive 150 alerts, including push notifications once your order has been filled, once a new transfer has arrived, long-term support level broken, or a token listed.

Also, there are price alerts, and the technical indicators, oscillators, or trendlines alerts will be rolled out soon. You can also schedule market and/or portfolio summary alerts at convenient times.

Trade Automation

To use trade automation on Good Crypto, you will need to upgrade to a PRO account. The app will automatically initiate another order once the first one is executed. Take-profits and stop-losses will manage risks and optimize profits.

There’s no need to explain what automated trading can do for you: quiet nights of quiet stars, risk-management, a chance to enter and exit long and short positions in the best possible circumstances. But, again, to use automation, you have to leave the comfort of your home-base app and sign up for something new.

No wonder various crypto trading and portfolio management apps rise to the challenge – except for Coinigy, and it’s not clear why. They do have servers powerful enough and a strong team, so they’re fully capable of doing so.

Good Crypto has addressed the issue known as sleepless nights, a lot of time stolen from your family and secure risk-management strategies. With advanced order types, such as stop-loss and take-profit, you can regulate the range within which you’re mentally prepared to bet.

Good Crypto users can attach take-profit and stop-loss orders to their initial order, so that once it is executed, the money will be put to action again.

For example, if you sell Ether and the price goes down, take-profit will get executed to buy back your asset. If the price goes up, stop-loss will buy your asset back for you to keep earning.

Soon enough, the developers will add a trailing stop connected order as well enabling you to capture much more profits on the upside.

Good Crypto developers also say that once they are done with building out the basic trading infrastructure (and that goal is firmly in sight) they will focus on advanced trade automation features. And we have no reasons not to believe them.

Conclusion

Coinigy was a great solution a few years ago, and, honestly, some of us still wait for them to come out of the shadows again, because the team and their potential are great. However, there are a few issues they need to address to do so. Good Crypto already has added more exchanges to trade on top of, providing more advanced order types and adding useful new features on a regular basis, such as futures trading.

Also, Coinigy gives off some expensive vibe, offering an annual plan for $186 per year while their competitors provide a better functionality for much less. Good Crypto asks $200 for a life-time subscription and only $69 for a year.

Considering the number of buttons that simply don’t work in Coinigy as well as the fact that Good Crypto’s light interface is easier, nicer and friendlier to deal with, it’s not a difficult choice to make for a user – which is quite sad because in its time the American app was a breakthrough.

One more thing that they should probably fix is their alert button in the mobile app. Not only does it kick you out of the system from time to time, it only works in the web version, which is mauvais ton in 2020. These days such apps as Good Crypto send you notifications once your order has been filled, once a new transfer has arrived, long-term support level broken, or a  token listed on the exchange of your choice.

Not say the least of automation that should be worked on simply because it pushes you ahead of competition. For example, Good Crypto customers can attach take-profit and stop-loss orders to their initial order, so that once it is executed, your downside will be protected and you’ll be ready to capture the upside should the price move in your favor. And the best part is that such a setup won’t require any additional work or attention from your side. Isn’t that what any trader is trying to achieve?
