Genies, a tech business, has secured $150 million in a Series C financing led by Silver Lake, valuing it at $1 billion.

The money will allow Genies CEO Akash Nigam to continue “building out the vision,” which is to construct a bespoke avatar-based metaverse platform for Gen Z, according to a blog post. Avatars are computerized characters that appear in video games or on social media platforms.

Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox web browser, is aiming to placate its eco-conscious fanbase by only taking proof-of-stake (PoS) cryptocurrency payments.

After a review period to gauge community emotions and do research on crypto energy consumption, the firm froze all crypto donations in January and has again reopened them.

In a blog post, Mozilla said that, following a review, it was modifying its contribution policy to align with its “climate commitments.” It stated that: “Mozilla will no longer accept ‘proof-of-work’ cryptocurrencies, which are more energy intensive.”

The Polygon network released its “Green Manifesto: A Smart Contract with Planet Earth” on Tuesday, announcing their intention to be carbon neutral and climate positive this year. They also pledged $20 million to offset their carbon footprint and purchase more credits in order to become carbon negative in the future.

Polygon is providing resources for its vast ecosystem of partners who wish to offset their carbon footprint as part of the Ethereum scaling solutions for a sustainable future. They also seek to make it easier for non-governmental organizations to make donations to fight climate change.

Scott Kelly, an astronaut, has launched Ethereum NFTs to benefit Ukraine

Astronaut Scott Kelly becomes the most recent public figure to launch an NFT project. Kellyis spent nearly a year on the International Space Station in 2015-16 and has just launched a series of Ethereum NFTs to aid humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

Kelly’s collection, Dreams Out of This World, debuted on OpenSea to commemorate the International Day of Human Space Flight, with 3,333 pieces of generative art now available for purchase. Kelly appears in each picture with a varied appearance and in diverse settings, such as floating in space, wearing a gorilla costume, or draped in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

“I’m a big believer in technology. I was really interested in cryptocurrencies and the blockchain — not early enough, but at least the last few years,” told Kelly. “I just look at this form of technology as another way to explore. In this case, it’s exploring the metaverse and virtual worlds.”
