Bitcoin hits new record, Ethereum’s Gitcoin raises $11.3 Million

Weekly Market Summary

Bitcoin hit a record of $62,741 on April, 13, a day before Coinbase’s IPO  in the United States. 

The world’s biggest cryptocurrency, which growsits acceptance rates as an investment and a means of payment, rose as much as 5%. Smaller rival Ethereum also reached a record high of $2,205.

Gitcoin raised $11.3 million in an investment round led by Paradigm, the crypto venture capital fund founded by Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam and former Sequoia Capital partner Matt Huang. Additional investors included 1kx, Electric Capital, IDEO, The LAO, and MetaCartel Ventures, as well as angel investors Naval Ravikant and Balaji Srinivasan.

Gitcoin is a platform that connects developers to open-source projects in the Ethereum space. It does this through grants, virtual events and hackathons, and an incubator. By organizing grant rounds and raising matching funds, it helps get projects like decentralized exchanges Uniswap and 1inch off the ground; the DEXs have since returned the favor to help run Gitcoin-backed hackathons.

AXA

European firm AXA has become Switzerland’s first all-line insurer to offer its customers the option to pay their bills with Bitcoin (BTC), which is facilitated through a collaboration with the established cryptocurrency broker Bitcoin Suisse.

Bitcoin payments will be accepted for nearly all AXA products except for life insurance, due to regulatory barriers to the latter.

Dogecoin

Dogecoin is now the 10th largest cryptocurrency, per CoinGecko. 

The cryptocurrency has notched up a total market capitalization of over $18 billion, pushing it into the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap—above Chainlink, which currently sits in 11th place, with a market cap of approximately $15.4 billion.
