Hey there! 👋
Geopolitics kept the pressure on, the labor market surprised, and Wall Street’s clash with crypto got unexpectedly entertaining. Here’s what happened this week:
quick weekly news
Bitcoin holds $78K as Iran escalates and CPI looms
Bitcoin traded just above $78,000 in Asian morning hours Thursday, down about 1% over 24 hours, but the rest of the market fared worse. DOGE led the declines by more than 5%, followed by BNB down roughly 4% and XRP down 3%. SOL, HYPE, and ETH each shed between 1% and 3%, leaving ETH just under $2,475 and SOL near $102. Tron was the only major in the green, per goodcryptoX data.

The macro backdrop stayed heavy. Brent crude climbed to nearly $102 after Iran said it was prepared for a more intense war, feeding straight into rate expectations. The 10-year Treasury yield held near 4.85%, a level last seen in late 2023, after the U.S. government’s plan to buy up to $6B of longer-dated debt disappointed investors hoping for a larger number. Asian stocks followed Wall Street lower, with the MSCI Asia Pacific Index down nearly 1%.
Friday’s CPI is the next major input. A hot print would put a Fed hike back into the price of everything that fell on Thursday.
U.S. added 162,000 jobs in August, beating expectations as the labor market rebounds
The U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, well above the 56,000 consensus estimate and a sharp turnaround from July’s revised 21,000 gain. The unemployment rate held at 4.1%.
Markets reacted immediately. Bitcoin dropped about 2% to below $80,000. The 10-year Treasury yield jumped 3.3 basis points to 4.80%, and the 2-year added seven to 4.40%. Stock futures moved modestly lower.

The report lands in a tricky moment for Fed policy. Chair Warsh put a September hike firmly on the table with his hawkish Jackson Hole speech a week ago. Fed Governor Waller then walked it back mid-week, sending markets surging by suggesting a hike wasn’t a done deal. Friday’s jobs print gives the hawks fresh ammunition, but with the August CPI report still to come next Friday, it’s unlikely to be the final word before the September 16 meeting.
Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token crashes 98% in under an hour after a $1.6B debut
LAPTOP, a memecoin tied to Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop, launched on Base on Wednesday and hit $320 within two minutes of trading before collapsing to $3.70 less than an hour later. An hour after the open, it was trading around $4.77, down 98% from the peak, with a market cap of roughly $1.6B on 350M tokens in circulation.

The launch raised immediate red flags. Blockchain intelligence firm Arkham noted that at peak FDV the token reached $144B while the liquidity pool backing it held just $48,000. A multisig wallet received 100M tokens, a tenth of total supply, seven days before launch, distributing roughly 42.5M since. Market maker GSR received 15.5M tokens four days before the open, and Wintermute holds around 1.8M in a hot wallet. Large transfers to exchange deposit addresses at Bitvavo, Kraken, KuCoin, and Bitpanda were also flagged. Pre-launch allocations to market makers are standard practice, and LAPTOP’s tokenomics set aside 20% for liquidity and operations.
One of the token’s 30 burn milestones is whether its market cap overtakes TRUMP’s. It already has, $1.6B against $615M. The project has earmarked part of its airdrop allocation for wallets underwater on TRUMP, which launched in January 2025, peaked near $73, and now trades around $2.25.
Robinhood stands its ground after AMC’s CEO demands a halt to stock tokens
AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron escalated his fight with Robinhood on Friday, calling on the brokerage to stop trading tokenized AMC stock and threatening legal action. Aron argued the products could undermine AMC’s ability to raise capital, strip investors of shareholder rights, and create a parallel market using the company’s name without its consent.

Robinhood’s Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher, a former SEC commissioner, didn’t blink. “We know a little something about the U.S. securities laws and will not ‘DECIST,'” he wrote on X, poking at Aron’s misspelling of “desist.” “Send your lawyers, and we’ll educate them.” CEO Vlad Tenev amplified the response: “We stand behind Stock Tokens.”
The dispute cuts into a real fault line in stock tokenization. Robinhood’s products are synthetic wrappers that track a stock’s price without making the token a registered share, meaning no voting rights, no place on the company’s shareholder register, and no involvement from the company itself. The tokens aren’t available to U.S. customers.
Several crypto executives sided with Aron’s concerns while supporting tokenization broadly. Backpack CEO Armani Ferrante argued that buying Robinhood’s tokens doesn’t necessarily translate into buying pressure on the underlying stock. Archax CEO Graham Rodford drew a sharper line: “A tokenized stock should mean the stock, tokenized.” Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo pointed to one AMC-linked token trading at roughly 60 times the reference share price, an example of how thin liquidity and fragmented markets can cause a token to diverge wildly from what it supposedly tracks.
The stakes are real. The tokenized stock market has reached $3.6B and is growing fast, with Citi projecting $5.5T in tokenized assets by 2030, including $2.7T in equities. How the industry defines what investors actually own when they buy a tokenized stock will matter a lot for what comes next.
Trendline trading explained – how to read the market without a single indicator

Some of the most successful traders don’t rely on indicators at all. They draw lines, watch where price reacts, and trade the breakout. Trendlines and support and resistance levels are the foundation that everything else in technical analysis is built on.
Here’s what the full guide covers:
- How to draw trendlines correctly: the rules that make a trendline valid, how to spot swing highs and lows, and what a breakout actually signals;
- Support and resistance in practice: how to identify key levels, why they flip after a breakout, and how to trade the retest with confidence;
- Real trendline trade setups in goodcryptoX: step-by-step examples with entry points, stop losses, and take-profit targets, including a setup with a 7.3 risk-reward ratio.
