New record for Chainlink, Uniswap takes new positions

Weekly Market Summary

LINK owners saw a happy hour a few days ago as a spurt of over 15% took Chainlink’s LINK token to $25, a new all-time high.

Eagle-eyed coin holders Link Marines saw the writing on the wall early this week when LINK was fluctuating around $22 and $23.

LINK’s performance, however, is as volatile as the tempers of the Link Marines. LINK hit a new all-time high of $21 on January 15, only to crash by 20% three hours later.

Still, while Bitcoin’s bull run attracted much gushing from all the corners, Chainlink had an even bigger year, exploding 1300% from a mere $1.77 on New Year’s Day of 2020.

The price of UNI, the native governance token of decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Uniswap, has reached a new all-time high of $14.25.

The token’s price has surged over 65% over the past week, pushing its market capitalization over the $4-billion mark.

Data shows that the UNI’s ongoing price rally pushed the token to the second place among the top DeFi tokens by market cap. And even outside of the “social circle” of DeFi tokens, UNI’s performance is admirable — it is currently ranked thirteenth among all cryptocurrencies by market cap.

Investment by Stellar Development Foundation

The Stellar Development Foundation has invested in blockchain payments company Wyre to boost support for financial applications in the Stellar ecosystem.

The Foundation said the $5 million Enterprise Fund investment in Wyre will introduce a variety of payment application programming interfaces (APIs) that can be used by apps on the Stellar network.

Cryptocurrency Fund

The American Cancer Society (ACS) has launched a cryptocurrency fund to support cancer research. The organization has partnered with cryptocurrency donations platform The Giving Block to launch the fund, setting a fundraising target of $1 million by early 2021.

Cryptocurrency raised through the Crypto Cancer Fund will go directly to funding the society’s cancer research program, supporting research for “new discoveries and better treatments.”
